What to Bring to College

For Move-In day:

  • A move-in dolly or hand truck
  • PPE: face mask/covering and gloves
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Bottled water


  • Mattress pad/foam topper (twin XL sized beds)
  • Bed bug protective mattress cover
  • Pillow and pillowcase
  • Comforter or duvet cover
  • Standard twin XL sheets

For the Room:

  • A fan (ensure that the fan is quiet but powerful)
  • A trash can
  • A power strip (must be UL rated, extension cords are prohibited)

For laundry and clothing:

  • Hangers
  • Laundry bag/basket
  • Laundry detergent
  • Dryer sheets
  • Stain remover

For the Bathroom:

  • Towels
  • Cleaning supplies
  • A bath cady to carry personal toiletries from your room to the bathroom
  • Personal care products (ex: shampoo, bod wash, face wash, etc.)
  • Bathroom rug (check with roommate to see who can bring one)
  • Shower shoes

For the Kitchen: (please note that halls have kitchenettes and not full kitchens)

  • Kitchen utensils (cups, plates, bowls, forks, spoons, mugs)
  • Dish soap and sponge
  • Dish holder
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Water pitcher/filer
  • Water bottle
  • Tupperware

For your Desk:

  • Folders
  • Binders
  • Pens/pencils
  • Planner
  • Post-it notes
  • Tape
  • Laptop
  • Headphones
  • Surge protects (extension cords are prohibited)

COVID-19 emergency bag if you are required to go into isolation or quarantine:

  • A duffle bag or carry-on sized bag
  • Medication
  • Phone and phone charger
  • Books and class materials to last 14+ days
  • Pajamas or clothes you are comfortable sleeping in
  • Snacks
  • Pillow
  • Socks
  • Laptop or table and charger
  • Shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion, other toiletries

Misc items:

  • A small first-aid kit
  • Umbrella and folding law chair for outdoor meetings
  • Emergency contact information, documents, medical insurance cards, etc.

Items that are prohibited:

The following items are prohibited, and students should not bring them onto campus. These items will be confiscated by Housing and Residential Life staff members and you will not receive them back. Please refrain from bringing prohibited items to campus.

  • Candles
  • Paper lanterns
  • Paper lamp shades
  • Extension cords
  • Anything with an open flame
  • Air conditioning units
  • Electric heaters
  • Halogen and lava lamps
  • Heavy duty appliances
  • Appliances with an open heating element
